Common questions

I don't hear any audio.
Turn up the volume and check that your iPhone isn't connected to a Bluetooth speaker or headphones you aren't wearing. Ttobak's recordings play even when the silent switch is on.

What do the two play buttons do?
The speaker plays the recording at natural speed; the tortoise plays it at three-quarter speed, with the pitch unchanged, so you can hear each sound clearly.

Why does a word “sound like” something different from its spelling?
Korean spelling keeps the parts of a word recognisable, and regular sound rules change how they are pronounced. Ttobak shows the pronunciation in brackets, in red, whenever it differs, for example 감사합니다 [감사함니다].

How do I type in Korean?
On iPhone or iPad open Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › Add New Keyboard › Korean, and choose “Standard” (the 2-set layout). Switch keyboards with the globe key. A keyboard trainer is coming to Ttobak.

How do I join the beta?
Open testflight.apple.com/join/R1RupY3w on your iPhone or iPad. You'll need Apple's free TestFlight app and iOS 17 or later.
